Rome Exhibition MAXXI Collection. The Space Of The Image

The MAXXI Museum in Rome is one of the city's most prestigious modern art venues. Recently, the heart of this contemporary building has undergone a renewal thanks to a newly designed permanent collection. The spirit and the identity of the museum have been renewed with the latest presentation of the MAXXI Collection: on display there are more than 30 works by a total of 26 artists which showcases some of the museum's newest acquisitions, including those by Monica Bonvicini, Katharina Grosse and Paolo Di Paolo, which were acquired in 2018 as a part of the museum's expansion policy. In the second part of the gallery, there are more than 20 other works, including pieces by Bill Viola, Giulio Turcato, Alighiero Boetti, Pablo Echaurren, Pei-Ming, Labics and Aldo Rossi which reflect the status of the work of art, the image and its perception in relation to space. With analogic instruments and new technologies, the thematic exhibition intends to, on the one hand, highlight the works strong link to painting and its traditions, while on the other hand, intending to create a counterpoint between the abstract and the figurative.


Free entrance for everyone from Tuesday to Friday (public holidays excluded) and every first Sunday of the month. Opening hours: Tuesdays to Wednesdays: from 11:00am to 7:00pm, Thursdays: 11:00am to 10:00pm, Fridays to Sundays from 11:00am to 7:00pm (closed on Mondays). Last entrance is one hour before closing time.
